Jumbo Cornish Cross Chickens

This is the fastest growing, meat producing bird that we raise here on the farm.  The Jumbo Cornish Cross is a hybrid breed, mating different types of chickens to produce chicks with big, broad breasts, and large thighs.  These chickens have been bred to grow rapidly, reaching roaster size in only 8 weeks!  The Jumbo Cornish Cross chickens are the most popular meat birds in America, filling up the large confinement houses like Tyson and Perdue.   When you go out to eat and order chicken at your nearest fast food restaurants, or local eatery, you will most likely be served meat from a Jumbo Cornish Cross.  The meat from these birds is what the American people have come to know as “chicken”.   Taking these birds that are bred for large confinement operations, and putting them out on our pastures, with fresh air, lots of sunshine, and our wonderful Non-GMO feed, makes their meat very flavorful and tender.  The Jumbo Cornish Cross remains the most popular bird we sell from our farm.

Freedom Ranger Chickens

Our Freedom Ranger chicks are hatched in the heart of the Pennsylvania Dutch Country. This breeding stock is imported from the regions of Burgundy and Brittany (France). The original stock came from the American and European old heritage breed of chicken, and was developed to meet the highest standards of the French Label Rouge Free Range program. Today, the Freedom Ranger genetic stock is used by most non-factory farm production models all across Europe and also by small pastured poultry producers in search of a traditionally raised farm chicken – just like the our ancestors raised ….  healthy and with a succulent flavor and texture.

Since our Freedom Rangers are a slower growing breed, they are naturally better suited to the healthier, all natural and organic rearing system like our pastured farm.  In the United States most modern poultry industrial production models such as Perdue and Tyson use the Jumbo Cornish Cross which is a hybrid synthetic breed designed for fast growth.

The natural instinct and behavior of a heritage chicken remains in our Freedom Rangers.  This shows in the way our birds love to forage in our pastures,  always looking for natural sunlight and fresh air, as well as scratching for bugs and taking regular dust baths.  Here at Drury Lane Farm we firmly believe that if we allow our chickens to do what they were created to do, that in turn, they will provide us with the best meal for our families table!

A fresh roaster ready for the oven in the Drury Lane Farm kitchen.

The "Coop DeVille" for our layers.

Heritage layers enjoying our fresh pasture.

Drury Lane Farm eggs are from a group of heritage breed pastured hens.  These hens live in the “Coop DeVille” and are moved to fresh pasture every 3 – 4 days.     Our hens are allowed to scratch and forage for bugs and fresh, green plants and grass just like the good Lord intended them to do.  Allowing our hens to be on fresh pasture and supplementing their diet with non-GMO feed*, makes our eggs stand out compared to the “best”, “most healthy” eggs offered at your local grocery. Our eggs have a dark, orange/yellow yoke that is surrounded by whites that are plump and tall, and the flavor is incredible !!  When used in baking, your baked goods will turn out lighter and fluffier because of the thickness of the whites.  It is amazing the difference Drury Lane Farm eggs make in all aspects of cooking and baking.

Specialty "Label Rouge" Freedom Ranger

Open floor "Broiler Buggies"

Drury Lane Farm  also provides healthy, all natural, pastured broilers and roasters.  These birds live in our “Broiler Buggies” which are floor-less shelters that are moved to fresh pasture every day.  This allows them to scratch and eat fresh grass and bugs just like they were created to do. We also supplement their diets with non-GMO feed*.  Since the chickens are allowed to behave naturally, the outcome, is a broiler that is juicy, plump, and full of flavor.
